RINTek works to promote the field of nanotechnology through:

Community Education

The largest event, in collaboration with MNSCU-SE, is the annual Nano/Emerging Technologies Day. This includes: a youth nano-camp, emerging applications and activities and a bicycle trek (Nanotrek). It is held every year in mid-June. There is also a tour of the RINTEK® facility and demonstrations on the use of the Atomic Force Microscope!

RINTek® personnel also do short presentations to service and community organizations.

RINTek® is also involved with the university extension services in Iowa and Minnesota. The present emphasis is for the introduction of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities with 4-H organizations.

Local and School Partnerships

RINTek® personnel are involved with local teachers in the development of emerging technologies classroom materials, student video production and consulting assistance to area public and private school science faculties. These activities are supported in part by the Minnesota State College-Southeast (MNSCU-SE) in Winona, Minnesota.

The nanotechnology educational materials developed follow the State of Minnesota curriculum standards.

Some examples are delivery of materials to 22 school districts in Southeast Minnesota, and face-to-face contacts with Rushford-Peterson, Houston, La Crescent-Hokah, La Crescent Montessori, Caledonia, Spring Grove and Waubasha science teachers, to mention a few.

Additional presentation materials continue to be developed. These materials are used in teacher training activities and classroom presentations. Subsets of these materials are available for public sector presentations to community and service organizations.

Post-Secondary Education

The emphasis for post-secondary education involves supplying nanotechnology training materials to teacher training departments at local colleges. Faculty members are trained and, in turn, train the students. Some faculty members are also involved with local school districts and present the materials to middle and high school students. Those college students that go on to teaching assignments are supplied with sets of materials for use in the classroom.

RINTek® also collaborates with MNSCU-SE for curriculum development, materials distribution and web site information.
